Using Yola.com

Yola.com was a very useful platform for creating our Song Beneath the Ice online museum. Yola.com allowed our group to use the layout that we preferred, input all the writing that was necessary for the project and incorporate several different forms of multimedia such as pictures and video.

The main reason that Yola.com was a very useful platform for creating our online museum, was that it was a very simple website and it does not take long to fully understand it. There are many different forms of content on the website such as text, picture and html uploads, which makes it easy to add to your website. The ‘properties’ tabs are adjacent to the content tabs, which makes editing your content very straightforward. Adding video to your site is a very painless process due to these two features. Although I had previous experience on Yola.com, my partners also found it very easy to made additions to our site.

My group and I experienced very few difficulties using Yola.com. However, one small problem we did face, was when we were trying to individually add to our website. We found that if we tried to access our editing page from different sources, the site would freeze. Yola.com only allows one source to be using the page at one time. This problem was solved simply by taking turns.

Although I believe it is a very helpful site, there are a few things I would change about Yola.com. Firstly, I would make a larger gap between the left column and the right column. Often writing from each side will come very close together and it makes the page look very unprofessional. Secondly, I found the ‘help’ page to be very unhelpful. It was very unorganized and I often found it tough to find the solution to my complications. Finally, I would change the editing page’s formatting toolbar. I would include a wider variety of fonts, colours and sizes that would enhance one’s webpage and make it more personal.

Overall, Yola.com is wonderful tool for anyone who wants to start their own website. It is straightforward, there are many different forms of content available and it is very easy to customize and make it your own. I would recommend this site to anyone interested in expressing their thoughts and opinions in an organized manner. In conclusion, Yola.com is great! – Matthew Darcy
