Leather jackets have been in use since the 1700’s but didn’t become iconic until the 1900’s. They were used by pilots in WWI and WWII and frequently called bomber jackets. In the 1950’s they were a symbol of rebellion and linked to motorcycle gangs. They also were shown in many popular movies of the time such as “The Wild One” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_One and “Rebel Without A Cause” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebel_Without_a_Cause . Leather jackets Have Remained popular throughout the 20th century and are still recognized as an icon of the rebellious. In “Song Beneath the Ice”, Dom wears a leather jacket and it adds to his image, like Gould, of a “rebel pianist”. Spencer Barton | ![]() |
